How to Paint Your Deck + The BEST paint!

Sharing is caring!

Paint a deck, or stain a deck? I just love the look of a solid color, so I am going to show you how to paint your deck + the best paint!

Before we get started, I have to say I can tell you that this is the BEST paint because I have tried others! You will see as I fix a bad paint job and use this on top of it. It is a year later and we are still so happy!

Now, you get to learn from my mistakes and hear my tips!

Ready to hear about my horrible paint story – Yes this is the same paint same color!!!

Need a few lessons? First if you ever are painting a LARGE area with multiple cans / buckets of paint make sure to mix them all together.

Don’t paint at night where you can’t see, especially if you didn’t take my advice above. Yes I painted with the same color but two different cans and this is what it looked like!

Another BIG TIP – make sure to follow the instructions and don’t paint when its to cold or going to rain – you WILL get bubbles – which will make peeling.

*If you are painting on pressure treated wood, you need to wait 60 days – 4 months so it can dry out.

NOW LET’S GET STARTED!

If you are starting on a fresh deck, you can skip this step…. just scroll down.

*Re-painting a deck, make sure to sand away any chipping or bubbling spots. You will want a smooth surface and its better to get it right the first time.

HOW TO PAINT YOUR DECK + THE BEST PAINT

I can say from experience that this BEHR Multi Surface Stain Blocking Primer and Sealer and the BEHR Porch and Patio Floor Paint is the BEST!

It is always best to test your paint, and make sure you will like it! This Slate Gray is a favorite so we are using it again! You can see how I stenciled with it HERE.

You can use a paint brush, or a roller. For this project I went with the paint brush it just worked better, thankfully it was super big and thick!

It is amazing how smooth using this Behr primer made the deck, honestly I just wanted to paint it but I wanted to do it the right way and I am so glad I did.

If you have been following along, you know how much I LOVE WHITE! Well, I love how this looks but I know with pups and kids what a nightmare this would be especially in our rainy season. ( YES I have tried it before)

It’s time to paint!

Here it is!! Yes, it was still drying in this photo but this only took one coat and it was done!

Hopefully you liked seeing the progress. I love the power of paint and the transformation that it can bring. As always, make sure to find the BEST paint and the right color!
