The Secret to Choosing the Right Paint Color

Sharing is caring!

The secret to choosing the right paint color, its Samplize! Let me share why we love it and all the details!

PS! They now even have BEHR Samples and well you know my favorite black paint Limousine Leather!

First lets tell a story about my BIGGEST DIY FAIL, and yes we are finally going to FIX it! That is coming NEXT!

Choosing a paint color sounds simple… until you actually have to paint an entire room—or even worse, the exterior of your home TWICE! Yes, I am saying twice because its been 5 years and I am ready to finally pick the right color and I have Samplize!

Ask anyone who has painted before, and they’ll probably tell you the same thing: paint never looks the same on your walls as it does on a tiny paint chip.

After years of renovating our home, we’ve learned that one decision can completely change a space. And after repainting more than we’d like to admit, we promised ourselves we weren’t going to get it wrong again.

That’s exactly why we keep coming back to Samplize.

Why We Started Using Samplize

Our first experience with Samplize was when we were redesigning Zoe’s bedroom.

We had narrowed it down to a few paint colors, but every one looked different depending on the time of day. Morning light made one color look soft and airy, while evening light made it feel much darker than we expected.

Instead of buying multiple sample cans, painting squares all over the wall, waiting for them to dry, and then repainting over them later, we ordered peel-and-stick paint samples from Samplize.

It completely changed how we choose paint.

Being able to move the samples from wall to wall and see them in natural light throughout the day gave us so much more confidence before committing.

And honestly… we’ve never looked back.

The BEST PART – you order your samples and it comes so fast – ships within 24 hours and some next day!!

Every Project Since Then Has Started With Samplize

Once we realized how much easier the process was, Samplize became part of every paint project we tackled.

Emerson’s Teen Room

When we transformed Emerson’s bedroom into a more mature space, choosing the right paint color was one of the biggest decisions. He decided he didn’t like the green, and honestly was a little hesitant on the black and white till I showed him the Samplize!

We wanted something timeless that would grow with him—not something we’d regret in a year. Look at the after the perfect paint!

Using Samplize let us compare colors side-by-side without permanently painting our walls, making the decision much easier.

Our Garage Makeover

Our garage became so much more than a place to store all the things!

It turned into one of our favorite projects with organized storage, upgraded lighting, and a completely refreshed look.

Because garages often have very different lighting than the rest of the house, seeing our paint colors in that specific space before painting made a huge difference.

Our Movie Room

One of our favorite transformations has been our theater room.

We wanted the space to feel cozy, dramatic, and dark enough for movie nights without making it feel like a cave.

Looking at paint samples during different times of day helped us choose a color that gave us exactly the mood we were hoping for.

Without Samplize, I honestly don’t think we would have been as confident choosing such a bold color.

Our Biggest Paint Decision Yet: Painting Our House

Every room we’ve painted has led us to one thing…

Our house exterior. Yes I bought the Samplize last year.. and you guys helped me choose but did you know how many whites there are and how they all change.

This isn’t a project where you want to guess… yes I changed my mind last minute last time and regretted it for 5 years!

Painting an entire home is expensive, time-consuming, and definitely not something we wanted to redo AGAIN!

We’ve made paint decisions in the past that looked completely different once they covered an entire surface, and we knew we didn’t want to repeat that mistake.

This time, we ordered multiple Samplize samples and spent not only days moving them around the exterior of our home but the last year haha! I even have driven around to houses I know are painted the colors we narrowed it down to!

We looked at them:

  • In bright sunshine
  • During cloudy Pacific Northwest days
  • In the morning
  • In the evening
  • Next to our black outbuilding
  • Beside our landscaping
  • Against our roof and white windows

It’s amazing how much one color can change depending on the lighting. We painted our house last time in the summer it looked more white but as it got cloudier, rainy our house stayed 75-80% of the year grey or brown!

Seeing each option on our actual house gave us confidence that we were making the right choice before investing in gallons of paint. Now you will have to stay tuned for the next part!

Why We Prefer Samplize Over Traditional Paint Samples

We’ve used both traditional sample paint and Samplize.

For us, Samplize wins every single time, really the secret to choosing the right paint color!

Here’s why:

  • No messy sample paint.
  • No brushes or rollers.
  • No waiting for paint to dry.
  • No repainting over sample squares.
  • Easy to move from wall to wall.
  • Real paint colors from major brands.
  • See colors in different lighting throughout the day.
  • Helps avoid expensive painting mistakes.

It saves time, money, and a whole lot of second-guessing.

Tips for Choosing the Right Paint Color

If you’re getting ready to paint, here are a few things we’ve learned after painting multiple rooms—and now our home’s exterior.

Look at the color all day long.

A paint color at 8 a.m. can look completely different at 6 p.m.

Move the sample around.

One wall might receive warm afternoon sun while another stays shaded all day.

Compare colors side-by-side.

Sometimes the best choice isn’t obvious until you see two or three options together.

Think about everything around it.

Flooring, trim, furniture, cabinets, landscaping, roofing, and even nearby buildings can all influence how a paint color appears.

Don’t rush.

Living with your samples for a few days is much easier than repainting an entire room later.

Our Favorite Part About Using Samplize

After using Samplize for:

  • Zoe’s bedroom
  • Emerson’s bedroom
  • Our garage
  • Our movie room
  • And now the exterior of our house

it’s become one of those products we recommend to everyone starting a paint project.

Every renovation begins with hundreds of decisions, but paint is one you’ll see every single day.

For us, taking a little extra time to test colors has saved us from making expensive mistakes—and given us confidence that we’re choosing the right color for every space.

Whether you’re painting one accent wall or your entire home, Samplize has become one of the first things we order before picking up a single gallon of paint.

What we learned :

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from transforming room after room—and now taking on the biggest project yet—it’s this:

Never choose paint based on a tiny paint chip.

From Zoe’s room to Emerson’s room, our garage, our movie room, and now our home’s exterior, Samplize has become part of every paint project we take on.

It gives us confidence before we commit, helps us avoid costly mistakes, and makes one of the hardest design decisions feel a whole lot easier.
