What to think of when Designing a Custom Closet

What are your storage needs?
Do you need drawers?
Hang or fold clothes?
Do you need a shelf for shoes?
How much space do you have without being crowded?
What extras do you want to add? Lighting, laundry basket, tie rack, spot for hats.. so many ideas!

TIP : Go through your clothes, jackets, shoes, and accessories before it will feel great and then you know exactly how much space you need and hopefully you emptied your closet some!

So much to think about when designing a custom closet, and so many different styles. James wanted his to be simple and functional where if I put the same closet in my room I would add custom trim.

We first took out the nasty carpet, and when I say we it’s mostly James – I am just there to grab him whatever he needs, doing all the clean up – the fun stuff. Then it was time to install floors, so much better!

These closet shelves went together so quickly! I kept putting it off but it was so fast and the longest part was the prep work like taking out the carpet, painting, and trim. Before installing, James wanted to fit everything to make sure it was all perfect.

The wood on the wall was left as a cleat for extra support, not necessarily needed but James likes to go overboard. He did also use these screws for a lot of extra, but they do send plenty too!

The cabinets and drawers went just as quickly as putting it all together!

I think James is so excited for the shoe racks in his custom closet. I need to grab some liner to put down.

You can see here how much of a difference the shoe racks change it!

We added some knobs we had around the house too!

Now for the fun part adding all the clothes back in! We decided to do the wood hangers, I bought the velvet but they weren’t for us.

Now you can see all complete!

It is time to add all the clothes and shoes!
