Studio Remodel – Why we didn’t use Drywall – Hello Trusscore
Studio Remodel – Why we didn’t use drywall, and chose Trusscore. Today I will share how we transformed this shed into a studio and all the details! This is the before, keep reading to see the transformation!

When we started turning our old shed into a studio, one of the first questions everyone asked was: “Are you putting up drywall?”
The short answer? No. We didn’t use drywall—and we’re so glad we didn’t.
Instead, we discovered a product that completely changed the way we think about walls: Trusscore.
Why we ditched drywall? For something smarter, cleaner, and way more durable. If you’ve ever tackled a renovation project, shed conversion, or garage build, keep reading—you might never want to use drywall again.
We’ve worked with drywall plenty of times before, and every single time, it’s the same story. It’s messy, fragile, and time-consuming.
Between taping, mudding, sanding, and painting, drywall adds days (or weeks) to a project that could otherwise be finished much faster. Not to mention—it’s not moisture-friendly. While we like to DIY, we normally hire out drywall so even more $$
The Problem With Drywall for the Studio
If you’re building a detached studio, garage, barn, pool house or anything that is with the outdoors. You know that humidity and drywall don’t mix well. It absorbs moisture, can grow mold, and it’s nearly impossible to clean once it’s scuffed or stained.
So before we even started framing our new space, we knew we wanted something different—something that could handle real life in the PNW.
Meet Trusscore: The Drywall Alternative We Didn’t Know We Needed

Enter Trusscore, a PVC-based wall and ceiling panel system that installs easily and looks incredibly clean.
At first glance, it gives you that bright, modern finish you’d expect from painted drywall—but the similarity ends there.
We went with Trusscore’s Wall and Ceiling Boards, and honestly, it was a game changer. Once you see the panels click into place—clean lines, no cracks—you’ll understand the hype.
Trusscore Wall and Ceiling Boards are lightweight, water-resistant, washable, and built to last. Did I say so easy to clean! They snap together tongue-and-groove style (kind of like shiplap), which means no messy mudding or painting, and you can install them in a fraction of the time.
Installation: Easier Than Drywall (By a Long Shot)
Installing drywall usually means hauling heavy sheets, screwing them in, taping seams, applying multiple coats of mud, sanding (endless dust!), then priming and painting.
Trusscore eliminates all of that.

We cut the panels to size, slid them into place, and clicked them together. No sanding, painting, or drying time. Just instant, seamless walls.
MY BIGGEST TIP buy this car trim kit – I will go more into detail but it will make it a million times easier! I don’t think we could have got it done without it!

Even better—it’s DIY-friendly. You don’t have to be a contractor to get professional-looking results. With a simple saw and a drill, we had the studio walls and ceiling done so quickly!

Durability That Actually Matches Our Lifestyle
If you’ve followed along with our projects, you know we have our little farm, and by all the farms. That means messes and flies – yes fly poop and it leaves a mess! These walls wipe so easy! We needed a wall system that could handle real-life messes.
Trusscore Wall and Ceiling Boards are:
- Impact-resistant – no more dents or holes from bumps and tools
- Waterproof and mold-resistant – perfect for garages, laundry rooms, or anywhere moisture happens
- Washable – you can literally spray them down with a hose or wipe them clean with soap and water
Drywall could never.
In a space like our studio—where creativity, projects, and everyday life collide—this durability makes all the difference. Just make sure to order extra, we didn’t measure correctly! Plus if you order extra you will be hooked you will have some to start a new project that you didnt know you needed to do!

A Cleaner, Brighter Finish
One of my favorite surprises with Trusscore was just how bright the space felt once it was installed. The white finish reflects light beautifully, making even smaller rooms feel open and airy.
In our studio, it instantly transformed the vibe—no paint required. The light bounce from the panels means we can film or photograph projects without harsh shadows or yellow tones.
For anyone building a studio, workshop, laundry area, barn or even a home gym, this bright, clean finish is a total win.

Sustainability Matters Too
We try to make thoughtful choices with every renovation. So when I learned that Trusscore Wall and Ceiling Boards are recyclable and made with sustainability in mind, it sealed the deal. I love that they reduce waste at the installation stage – you use less and less waste!
Unlike drywall, which often ends up in the landfill after every renovation, Trusscore products are made to last—and when their life cycle ends, they can be fully recycled.
Plus, because you skip all the mud, primer, and paint, you’re also cutting out extra materials and chemicals from your project. That’s a win for both your wallet and the planet.

Why It Was Perfect for Our Studio
Turning our shed into a studio has been one of our biggest projects yet. We wanted a space that looked professional, functioned well year-round, and could evolve with our needs.
Drywall wouldn’t have made sense here.
Trusscore gave us a sleek, low-maintenance finish that’s strong enough for anything.
We cant wait to show you what it is for, but it’s basically a blank canvas that’s built to last.

Cost: The Real Question
Here’s the thing—Trusscore might cost a bit more upfront than drywall, but when you factor in labor, materials, paint, and time, it’s actually comparable (and often cheaper overall).
Drywall requires:
- Multiple materials (tape, mud, primer, paint)
- Specialized tools
- Drying and sanding time
- Hiring it all out?
- Cleanup (don’t even get me started on the dust)
With Trusscore Wall and Ceiling Boards, you skip all that—and end up with something more durable, easier to maintain, and far more versatile.
So yes, the initial material price might be slightly higher, but the long-term value and time savings make it completely worth it. Plus it is easy to DIY! The only thing like I said before you might be hooked and add on more projects! My garage is waiting, along with our chicken coop, and we have another garage area too!
